A49 Challange on Sunday 12/7

Postby ricky_v on Wed Jul 01, 2009 9:17 pm

ONE HUNDERED AND FOURTY MILES EACHWAY of madness, recently voted "the best road to do 40MPH" by members of the sunday drivers club, this fun packed Primary A route will not dissapoint.

starting at the A6 south of preston, running through Wigan, Warrington, Whitchurch, Shrewsbury, Leominster, and Hereford, and finally ending where it meets the A40 near Ross on Wye, just west of the M50, to do all this in one day is for the crazies...

Madness?

I used to do that to go and see my sister! (Preston to Shrewsbury and then over to Warwick)
It is a lovely road though!

A few things to note though:
1 - There is no easy way to follow it between Wigan and Warrington - last time I followed a sign painted on the road (A49) on a big roundabout and ended up on the M6
2 - beware of the dogleg - the A49 hangs a right at a pub (The Red Fox or something like tha) and it is quite easy to miss it (between Warrington and Whitchuirch)
I have never seen the pub open on any of my trips

Have fun

Why is this just for the crazies Ricky....????
I don't class it good rideout unless you go past the 200 mile mark, as I regularly used to ride to SV's house in Bristol... on the A-roads... on my 125...... 185 miles each way.... taking me approx 4 hours each way on average......Also I will be putting up my usual summer rideout soon accross North Wales to Anglesey and back again... totaling over 300 miles easily....... Or does this class me as crazy????

Unfortunatly though i wont be able to make this ride as I'm on nights that weekend (doh...!!!)

Ricky, I wasn't havin a go.... just askin if you have to crazy to qualify for the ride lol..... and giving a few points to see if I do qualify....lol

Just as a pointer though... the examples I gave were not carried out on a big f**k off bike... they were all done on 125's...

Anyway mate, hope you enjoy your ride, and hope you take up the challenge of my North Wales ride when it goes on here, as even though it's useually a long day, it's a bloody good ride....
